Matteo Ugolini, Karman’s art director, took Moby Dick from Melville, and Karman’s own description quotes the novel. Karman says its wavy lines recall the sea and its concave line the whale’s hump. Launched in 2013, it’s fibreglass, smooth outside and rough inside, and Karman says the light comes through with a warm effect.
About Moby Dick
Karman’s 2023 project book shows Moby Dick over the lounge at Doryssa on the Greek island of Samos, and above a bed in a Moscow interior.
It comes in two sizes, about 83 cm and 150 cm long, for indoors and out. Come and see the small one lit in our Ottawa showroom, and we’ll help you choose the size.

Karman, founded in 2005 in Fossombrone, Italy, makes lighting in an unusually wide range of materials, from ceramic and blown glass to fibreglass, resin and linen.
