Ketra Lighting

Light changes throughout the day. Most artificial light does not.

Ketra is a lighting system that allows a home to change with it — warmer in the evening, cooler during the day, brighter when needed and quieter when it is not.

The fixture never changes. The light does.

What it actually does

Colour that stays where you put it

Ketra tunes across the white range and into colour, and it is built to hold that colour consistently from fixture to fixture. Colour consistency sounds like a technicality until one downlight is visibly pinker than the downlight beside it. In a kitchen, a gallery wall or a bathroom mirror, that is the difference between a scheme that reads as designed and one that reads as assembled.

A room at the Flux showroom in Ottawa taken down to a very low light level, with no glare

Dimming to 0.1%

Most LED lighting struggles at very low light levels. Ketra does not. It dims to 0.1% — an order of magnitude below the point where ordinary LED gives up, starts to step, or drops out altogether. What that buys is not darkness. It is the ability to take a room right down and have it stay smooth: no visible steps, no flicker, no hunting at the bottom of the curve. In a media room it is the whole difference between drama and glare.

A whole day, in a few minutes

This is the one people remember. Ketra can run a room along the arc of the sun — cool and bright in the middle of the day, warm and low in the evening — and in the showroom we run it sped up, so you can watch a whole day pass in a few minutes. It is programmed as a scene, so it takes one request and a few minutes of your time. Nobody has ever walked out of that demonstration thinking about lumens.

It is Lutron, so it already talks to the house

Ketra is part of Lutron, and it runs on the same HomeWorks system as the keypads, the shades and the sensors. That matters more than it sounds: the daylight scene and the shades are not two products being persuaded to co-operate — they are one system. The light can rise as the shades close, and nobody in the house has to think about it.

What Ketra changes in a room

See it in Ottawa before you commit

You cannot judge Ketra from a photograph, and you should not have to. The studio at our Ottawa showroom has a full Ketra installation, and the scenes are already programmed. Come and stand under it. Ask us to run the day. Take the room down to a tenth of one percent and watch what happens to the shadows.

Designers and homeowners across Ottawa and Gatineau come to us at exactly this point — when they know they want light that does more than switch on, and they want to see what that means before anything is specified. If you are looking for Ketra in Ottawa, start here.
